Prior to surgery Doctor Pat will consult with prospective patients, to determine expectations and to explain the procedure, including possible after-effects. This will also help the Doctor assess the patients’ suitability for Chin Augmentation Surgery, and advice on likely results.

The procedure is carried out under local anesthetic with sedation, meaning that the patient sleeps throughout the operation but recovery time is fast. Having selected the best size and shape of implant to enhance the patient’s appearance, the Doctor makes a small incision either below the chin or inside the mouth through which the implant is inserted above the jaw bone and fixed. Following stitching of the incision, usually the chin may be taped in order to minimize swelling and discomfort.

Although patients can return to their place of residence following surgery, they will need to return to the clinic after 5 – 7 days for examination.

Mild pain and discomfort may be experienced post-operation, for which prescription pain medication can be used. A degree of numbness is possible, although this will disappear within a maximum of 3 months. Any swelling will disappear in 5 – 7 days.

It is recommended that patients wear a supporting brace for a few weeks when sleeping to prevent accidental trauma, movement of the implant and to help tissues to heal properly.

CHIN REDUCTION / RESHAPING SURGERY (GENIOPLASTY)

The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia, although, after a period of rest and recovery at the clinic, the patients can return to their place of residence. The Doctor makes a small incision either below the chin or inside the mouth, Then he will reshape the contours of the bone either by bone shaving or by cutting a piece of the jawbone. The chin bone is repositioned and held in place using wires and plates, and the incisions are then sutured.
