Calf Implants, Augmentation

Calf implants are designed to enhance the size, shape and balance of the lower leg. Primarily a cosmetic surgery procedure, it may also be used to correct muscle deterioration caused by injury or nerve diseases.

Prior to surgery Doctor Pat will consult with prospective patients, to determine expectations and to explain the procedure, including possible after-effects. This will also help the Doctor assess the patients’ suitability for Calf Implant Surgery, and advice on likely results. The shape and size of implant will be also be discussed and agreed.

The procedure is carried out under genaral anesthetic. The Doctor makes a small incision in the crease behind each knee and places the optimal implants in pockets under the existing calf muscles. The incision is then stitched closed.

Mild pain and discomfort may be experienced post-operation, for which prescription pain medication can be used.  Some degree of swelling and possible bruising can be expected, but this is only temporary.
